STAR TREK: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME AND SPACE

The Captain's Log, Star Date 2420:
"Our mission is to explore srange new worlds, discover new civilisation and go where no man has ever gone before. This is First Officier Spock reporting, the second in command of the starship 'Enterprise'. After receiving distress signals from planet Alpha 16, which has been abandoned since the colony was destroyed by a mysterious virus in 2305, Captain Jame T. Kirk was transported to the surface of the planet to discover the origin of the distress signals. He was accompanied by DR MacCoy, the ship's doctor, lieutenant Uhura, communications officier, and Scottie, the ship's engineer. We lost contact with the party and then received a message from a strange alienlife form to say that the Captain and his party would be destroyed if myself and the four hundred and thirty other crew members did not hand over the 'Enterprises' to it. We must try to save the Captain but the 'Enterprise' must not fall into the hands of analien life form. We have twenty-three hours, thirty-five minutes and fifteen seconds left. I have decided to send a rescue party to thesurface of the planet."


This is the beginning of another adventure for the crew of the starship 'Enterprise' in the television series Star Trek. The crew is made up of different races, including Aliens from other planets, and a third of the crew is female. The star of the television series is Mr Spock, who ishalf human, on his mother's side, and half Vulcan.His father comes from the planet Vulcan, which has not been discovered yet! This means that he is governed by logic and has no human feelings, but because of his human side, hehas some emotionsand at rare moments, Mr Spock smiles!
In the late 1960's, NBC television broadcast the first episode of Star Trek and it quickly became a cult. It is still shown on television all over the world, including France. When NBC decided to end the programme after the first two years, they received 114,667 letters of complaint! So the television series continued. There are 79 episode, and three films have been made with the same actors. The last film was made in 1984, so you can imagine the actors were a little older then!
In january 1972, there was Star Trek convention and more than three thousand people attended it. A Star Trek fan club also existed and Nelson Rockefeller, the governor of new York Stateand vice-president of the U.S.A., was a member and so was Isaac Asimov, a famous science-fiction writer. Even the American government take Star Trek seriously! In 1976 President Gerald Ford baptized a real spaceship the "Enterprise" in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. and What about you, are you a Star Trek fan?
